Swimming lessons are an integral part of a child’s life! Learning how to swim is not only essential to enjoying the beautiful, warm summers of West Virginia, but they help build the confidence of youth throughout the Clarksburg community. We have multiple classes for multiple skill levels and ages. Our group lessons and private lessons run throughout the entire year thanks to our climate-controlled indoor pool. Please refer to the current session brochure (located here) for more information on available times. Members receive a discounted rate on our group lessons.
Swim Lessons (all ages)
Parent/Child Class (Ages 6 months – 3 years)
The primary objective of this 30-minute class is to promote enrichment and aquatic readiness. Parent/child pool interaction helps prepare children for swim lessons. The main goal is getting the child to feel comfortable in and around the water.
Preschool Swim (Ages 3-5)
As the first experience in the pool without parental assistance, the child is taught basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming. They also learn about pool safety and the use of personal flotation devices. During this forty five minute class, participants are divided into skill levels.
Youth (Ages 6-12)
This class is based on a logical, multi-level progression that helps children of varying abilities develop their swimming and water safety skills.
Stroke Development (Ages 5-99)
This class is designed to assist children in accomplishing correct stroke technique. Must be able to swim 25 yards on front and back, swim under water, and tread water for one minute.
Private Swim Lessons
These lessons are taught by specialized and caring YMCA swim instructors using the guidelines of the YMCA swim lesson program. Clients of ALL ages are taught based on their needs, abilities, circumstances, and goals.
